Early spring and early autumn are great times to exercise. The weather is fantastic and the scenery is captivating. It’s easy to get out and walk, cycle, or even run. Unfortunately, the days get hotter with summer and in winter they get shorter and colder. That makes it slightly tougher to get up and bike or run during those times. If you get the workout blues during the colder or hotter months, follow these tips to keep yourself motivated and active.
Find a workout buddy.
A workout partner can help keep you motivated and hold you accountable if you skip workouts. You both can encourage and motivate one another leading to more productive results.
Find your why.
Yeah, yeah, we know…it is a cliché, but finding your ‘why’ is what makes you tick. Finding your why can keep you on track even on days you want to remain in bed to binge-watch your favorite show. Write down your goals and inspirations. Your “why” is an especially important mental component to keep you going even on those difficult days.
Switch things up.
If you are accustomed to running, jogging, or biking only during great weather but are house and couch-bound on those dreary and cold days, then do something different. Try new workouts, go to a gym, or use what you have at home. If you focus more on weight training or high-impact exercises then try yoga instead. There are always options that will allow you to remain on target.
Occasionally it simply will not be possible for you to get away from the house so there are things you can do at home that will help keep you in shape.
· Sweeping and mopping
· Shoveling snow
· Washing the car
Not surprisingly, everyday household chores can keep you very active. Many can also get you fit. A little creativity is all it takes.
You will encounter many mental and physical obstacles in your quest to live a healthy lifestyle. Hot days, cold days, those dreary days where the sun isn’t shining, and when the wind blows with such an intensity that it convinces you a gallon of ice cream is the best option. Those days will be hard to overcome. Utilizing the tips listed above will make it much easier to ignore those obstacles.
