Meet the Alabama Vaccine Confidence Network’s Latest Partner – West Central Alabama AHEC
Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) are committed to expanding the health care workforce, maximizing diversity and facilitating distribution, especially in underserved communities. AHECs were created by Congress in 1971 to increase the quantity, diversity and distribution healthcare professionals, especially in rural and underserved areas. Research has been shown that positive changes to these three areas increase access and improve the overall health of communities.
How We Work Together
West Central Alabama Area Health Education Center enhances access to quality health care, mainly primary and preventive care, by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals in underserved Alabama communities through community/academic educational partnerships. WCAAHEC joined the VCN as an expansion of its involvement in community health initiatives to include a community-based COVID-19 response.
