Several health conditions are affecting the men in our community. Here’s a safe space to connect and talk about it.
We’re fighting for better health outcomes in our communities. With disparities like Black men in the U.S. facing higher mortality rates from chronic conditions compared to white men, our men’s health circle is your space to share, learn, and conquer challenges together.
When it comes to our health, these three affect our community the most:
Also known as high blood pressure (HBP), Hypertension prevalence is significantly higher in underrepresented communities, particularly among Black men. Often called the “silent killer” when uncontrolled, HBP can lead to other chronic conditions like heart disease and chronic kidney disease.
Underrepresented men, including Black/African American, Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaska Native men, experience higher rates of diagnosed diabetes compared to non-Hispanic White men. Whether you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, your body may not be able to produce enough insulin or use it properly.
We know you might be nervous to get tested for prostate cancer. It’s important you understand your prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels and family history to understand your risk.
When we are not included in clinical research, we can’t be sure if a treatment will work just as well or be just as safe for us as it will for other races.
By participating in clinical research, we can give ourselves a chance to have treatments that may work better and be safer for us.
Learning more about clinical research can be a critical step in improving health outcomes for future generations.
If you still have questions, you are not alone.
